That has been the story of Ivan as he’s grown up in our care. He was first brought to Bless the Children severely malnourished, rejected by the community, with no family or guardian to care for him. Ivan, almost two years old, was the size of a 9 month old because of his malnourishment. With significant developmental challenges, our team recognized that it would take a village to care for Ivan.
Each day Bless the Children’s staff would help Ivan regain his strength by giving him a healthy diet and exercises to strengthen his legs. Day by day he was getting stronger, and as he regained his health, his smile got wider and wider. Gradually he started wiggling his legs, then crawling, eager to keep up with other kids. Ivan is filled with smiles, laughs, and an immense amount of joy. It is nearly impossible not to catch his joy the moment you meet him.
God used Ivan to bless our ministry. Walking around campus you can see kids and staff carrying Ivan, helping him walk, playing with him. Ivan has shown our kids and staff that they are loved not because they are able bodied, but because they have a God who loves them, cares for them, and knows them inward and out. The Bible teaches us in Isaiah 60:22 that “the least one shall become a clan, and the smallest one a mighty nation; I am the Lord God; in its time I will hasten it.”
We celebrate that the body of Christ comes in all different shapes and sizes. Each person with their own gifts and their own purposes. As for Ivan, we continue to pray that God will use him to bless others!
